Overview
Arriving in the Kingdom of Bhutan
Whether you fly into Paro or enter by land through one of Bhutan’s border points, reaching Bhutan is straightforward with the right preparation. Explore the main arrival options and essential information before beginning your Bhutan adventure.
Getting to Bhutan by Air
Bhutan is easily accessible by air through its two national airlines, Drukair and Bhutan Airlines. All international flights arrive at Paro International Airport, Bhutan’s only international gateway.
Direct flights connect Bhutan with Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Guwahati, Mumbai, Kathmandu, Dhaka, Bangkok, Singapore, and Dubai, with seasonal services from Malaysia during selected periods.
For the best flight options and schedules, we recommend booking well in advance, particularly during popular festival seasons.

Fly into Bhutan through Paro International Airport, the country’s only international gateway, with convenient connections from major Asian cities.
Getting to Bhutan by Road
Bhutan can also be reached by road from India through three official border crossings: Phuentsholing in the west, Gelephu in the south, and Samdrup Jongkhar in the east.
Well-connected roads from West Bengal and Assam make these entry points accessible and convenient. Traveling overland also offers a more gradual introduction to Bhutan, allowing you to experience its changing landscapes, local communities, and way of life along the journey.
Enter Bhutan overland through Phuentsholing, Gelephu, or Samdrup Jongkhar, with scenic road connections from India.
Getting Around Bhutan
Within Bhutan, travelers can choose from domestic flights, helicopter services, and comfortable road transport. Drukair connects Paro with Bumthang, Yongphula, and Gelephu, while helicopter services offer faster access to remote destinations.
For overland journeys, we provide Department of Tourism–certified SUVs, minivans, and coaster buses, suited to different group sizes.
For most travelers, we recommend exploring Bhutan by road. The scenic highways offer a relaxed journey through mountains, forests, rivers, and traditional villages, making the journey itself part of the Bhutan experience.

Domestic flights connect Paro with Bumthang, Yongphula, and Gelephu, offering a convenient way to reach Bhutan’s central, eastern, and southern regions.
Beyond the Journey, Bhutan Awaits
The moment you arrive, a different rhythm begins. Mountain landscapes unfold, ancient traditions come to life, and warm Bhutanese hospitality welcomes you into a culture shaped by centuries of heritage.
