Our representative will receive you at Guwahati Airport and escort you to Samdrup Jongkhar. The drive takes you through tea gardens, clear rivers, quiet villages and small towns with their own local culture. In the evening, you can take a walk through Samdrup Jongkhar town. After breakfast, you will begin your journey to Trashigang, the major commercial hub of eastern Bhutan. The drive takes you through tropical and broadleaf forests, villages and different vegetation zones. Along the way, you can stop at Narphung, Wamrong, Khaling and Kanglung to meet and interact with the local people. Overnight at a hotel in Trashigang.

Today, you will travel to Sakteng in a 4WD vehicle (Bolero). The road is mostly an unpaved farm road and can be bumpy in some sections. The people living in the Sakteng area, known as the Brokpa, are semi-nomadic yak herders with a unique culture. They speak their own dialect, have their own deities and wear a distinctive style of dress. They also wear headgear made from yak hair, traditionally designed with five tentacles to help keep the rain away. Overnight at a farmhouse in Sakteng.

It is worth spending an extra day in Sakteng to explore the life and culture of the Brokpa people. You may visit local schools and interact with the people to learn more about their culture, social life and religious traditions. You may also go on a hike and enjoy views of the Sakteng Valley. After breakfast, you will drive back to Trashigang. Upon arrival in Trashigang, you will visit Trashigang Dzong. Later in the afternoon, you will drive for about one hour to Radhi Village, which is renowned for its traditional Bura textiles made from raw silk. You will explore the village and interact with the local people. Overnight at a hotel in Radhi.

This morning, you will drive to Trashiyangtse, which is well known for its traditional wooden bowl carving. You will have an opportunity to see local craftsmen making the bowls. On the way, you will visit Gom Kora Temple. It is said that Guru Rinpoche meditated here, and you can see impressions of his thumb, hat and body on the rock near the temple. You will also visit Chorten Kora, a white Nepalese-style stupa built in 1740 and one of the main attractions of eastern Bhutan. If time permits, you may visit the Bomdeling Wildlife Sanctuary Visitor Centre, which has a small wildlife museum. The sanctuary is an important winter roosting place for the endangered black-necked cranes and is also home to many other species of animals and birds. Overnight at a hotel in Trashiyangtse.

Today, you will drive to Mongar. On the way, you will take a side trip from the main road and drive up to the ridge to visit Drametse Monastery. The monastery was built in 1511 and is one of the important monasteries in eastern Bhutan. It is also the place where the Drametse Nga Cham (Drum Dance) originated. The dance is now performed during festivals in different parts of the country. You will have a picnic lunch at the monastery. After lunch, if you wish, you can hike back to the main road. The hike takes about one and a half hours and passes through small villages and hamlets. Your car will be waiting at the main road to take you back to Mongar. In the evening, you can stroll through Mongar town. Overnight at a hotel in Mongar.

After breakfast, you will drive to Lhuntse, formerly known as Kurtoe. The region is considered the ancestral home of the Bhutanese royal family. On the way, you will visit a huge Guru Rinpoche statue, which stands about 173 feet tall and is known as one of the tallest Guru Rinpoche statues in the world. The statue was built to bring peace and prosperity to the world and to all sentient beings. You can enjoy views from the top of the ridge, with the landscape featuring cliffs, gorges and dense coniferous forests. You will also explore Khoma Village, where local women weave traditional textiles by hand. The village is famous for its intricate and colorful weavings. Overnight at a hotel in Lhuntse.

Today, after an early breakfast, you will drive about 40 km north of Lhuntse to visit the historic village of Dungkar. You will visit the impressive 16th-century palace, the Jigme Namgyel Naktshang, which is considered the ancestral home of the Wangchuck Dynasty, the current royal family of Bhutan. You will explore Dungkar Village and drive back to Lhuntse in the afternoon. Overnight at a hotel in Lhuntse.

After breakfast, you will drive back to Trashigang via Mongar. It will be a long drive, with the journey taking you through the mountain roads of eastern Bhutan. Overnight at a hotel in Trashigang.
