This 8 Days Magical Bhutan tour will be Mix of cultural tour with a camping trip to Bumdra. This short overnight trek has much to recommend it, great view of the Paro valley, gorgeous sunset, interesting cliff face pilgrimage site, little visited chapels above Taktsng goemba and the spectacular Tiger’s Nest Monastery.    

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Paro international airport.

During the journey, one will experience breath-taking view of Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga and other famous Himalayan peaks including the sacred Jumolhari and Mount Jichu Drake in Bhutan. On arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be received by your guide and take you to Thimphu which is 54 km from Paro Airport and about 45 minutes’ drive. Later in the afternoon  visit the King’s Memorial Chorten (built in memory of the third King of Bhutan); Changgangkha Monastery; visit the mini zoo where you will see national animal of Bhutan Takin, and the majestic Tashichhodzong. Day 2: Thimphu

After breakfast, visit Buddha statue, School of Arts and Crafts (also known as the painting school); Traditional paper factory, visit Post office were you can personalize your stamp,  Traditional Paper Factory, visit weaving centre, Semtokha Dzong. Evening: Stroll through the town. Overnight hotel in Thimphu.

Day 3: Thimphu – Punakha

After breakfast this morning, enjoy the scenic drive to Punakha with a stop for tea at Dochu La (3,100 meters), where on a clear day you can get spectacular views of the Eastern Himalayas. From the pass, drive downhill through the forests of rhododendron, fir and hemlock. You will arrive Punakha after traversing through rice field and along the bank of Punakha River. On the way to Punakha, you will stop at Metsina village and take a 20 minute walk through the rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang, which is a fertility temple. After Lunch you will visit the Punakha Dzong, which is stunningly situated inbetween the male and female rivers like an anchored ship. Overnight hotel in Punakha

Day 4: Punakha – Paro

After breakfast, drive to Paro with a stop at Dochula for cup of tea. After tea proceed to Paro. After lunch, you will visit Paro Dzong, built in 17th century and now houses government offices and religious institutions, visit Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest temple in the country built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in 8th century and visit National Museum (former watchtower). Evening: Stroll through the town. Overnight hotel in Paro.

Day 5: Paro – Sang Choekor and hike to Bumdra

DISTANCE 6 KMS | Time: 56hrs.| Ascent: 960m | Altitude: 2220m-3800m

Morning you will drive up to Sang Choekor monastery from where you will start your hike. The initial one to two-hour ascent through shady forest will bring you to a ridge from where you can get nice view of Paro Valley. About 1-2 hours walk away is the Chhoe Chhoe Tse Lhakhang (temple); which nestles at the side of the mountain. The trail continues and when we reach the last steep elevation we will see a temple overlooking the views of Paro airport and the snow-capped Himalaya. After another 20 minutes of climbing through ruins and fluttering prayer flags, we hike into the ancient forest for about 40 minutes before we reach a wide meadow with sacred chortens and prayer flags. Your home for tonight is in the tent tucked away just under Bumdra Monastery offering views of the Himalayan range.

Day 6: Hike to Paro via Tiger’s Nest Monastery

DISTANCE 10 KMS | Time: 6hrs.| Ascent: 180m | Decent: 1400m | Altitude: 3800m-2220m

After a breakfast, you will descent for one to two hours, and then you will catch the glimpses of the golden roofs of the temples below. You will continue to hike along the path before stopping at the garden of the Zangto Pelri( Heaven on Earth). Peer over the edge to see the ornate rooftops of the Taktsang monastery preaching against the cliff far below. Follow a steep descent to a waterfall then up some step and you will reach the Tiger’s Nest itself. Explore the monastery and make a final descent of 45 minutes to Paro valley floor to reach your vehicle from where you will transferred to hotel. Overnight hotel in Paro.

Day 7: Depart

After breakfast you will drive to Paro airport for your Departure.
